Hi Reader The Nov 2024 IB Physics exams are officially behind us! How does it feel to have finished??? From my viewpoint, the Nov 24 exams made waves for a couple of big reasons.... Reason #1: They Were Hard! It’s fair to say that students found these papers challenging (I’ve seen some, let’s say, “colourful” feedback – here are the safe for work highlights)
All I can say is... have faith. The IB examiners are not newbies here! There's a robust system that analyses the difficulty of the paper and sets grade boundaries accordingly. Contrary to popular belief, the grade boundaries are not set by a bell curve. Instead, each grade has a set descriptor outlined in the IB specification, indicating what a student at that grade should be capable of achieving. I've detailed these grade descriptors from the IB examiners here. Lead examiners look at these descriptors, assess the exam paper, gauge the level of understanding a student needs, and then decide the grade boundaries accordingly. Trust me. Every cohort thinks their exam is hard and students usually get the grade they deserve in the end. It will all be ok. Reason #2: Last Of It's Kind! The N24 exam was the final exam under the current syllabus. With the May 2025 exams bringing in a completely revamped syllabus, this is truly the end of an era! Starting in May 2025, the IB Physics syllabus will introduce new topics and a fresh approach to the exam structure. So, if you’re thinking about a resit or are prepping for May 2025, now’s the time to get ahead. Want to avoid that “am I cooked?” feeling for the May 2025 exams? You know I've got you! TrIBe Physics can support you all the way until those M25 exams. I've got some new, more affordable options for joining - check them out here.
